Eve teasing is a serious offence anywhere in the world punishable under law for upto 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. I hope this letter is forwarded to as many females & males as possible so that this dangerous crime of eve teasing is permanently stopped in our great city of Mumbai and other great cities in India. Shopper's Point located opposite Andheri Station in Mumbai looks like any other bustling educational building with over a dozen reputed institutes running vocational & self development courses within it's concrete framework. From floors 1st to 4th you have such institutes like Enoma, GeeBee, IIHT, CMS, Arena, Karrox, etc. However, on the ground floor there are shops selling clothes, shoes, insurance, etc. And herein lies the problem.... There are 2 entrances to Shopper's Point, 1 from the main road and 1 from the inner road which is off the main S.V. Road. Mostly, female students prefer entering from the main S.V. Road entrance. As females enter from this main entrance they are often teased by salesmen from the two salwar kameez shops named 'Shagun' and 'Libha'. The doors are flung open into the faces of the girls walking through the narrow corridor of this main entrance and then all the 4-5 salesmen inside the shop will shout and say "Madam, andar aao na" and will laugh heavily after that. They will often throw water or tea on these innocent young girls when they pass by. I have noticed this eve teasing going on with girls in the age groups of 14 yrs to 21 yrs. These shameless boys & men do not tease "burkah-clad girls" but choose to tease and insult girls from all other communities. There have been 3 institutes who have actually lodged police complaints against these two shops and all the salesmen working inside. These 3 institutes are Karrox, Optionz & Savio DSilva Classes. I am writing this letter and getting it forwarded on Orkut because inspite of these salesmen being taken to the D.N. Nagar Police Station on 3 seperate occassions for Eve Teasing, they were all let off on a paltry bribe by the inspectors on duty namely Mr. Patil & Mr. Pathan. These salesmen then go back to work the very next day and eve tease even more innocent young girls who come to Shopper's Point for a quality education. We often say that Mumbai is the best city in India and our politicans often compare our city to Shanghai, Berlin and Tokyo amongst the other world's best cities. Yet, when it comes to the safety of young girls in Mumbai the police are happier taking bribes than actually solving the problem of eve teasing once and for all. I hope that this letter is forwarded to anyone and everyone you know, on each and every community website in India and rest of the traditional world so that the next time a boy or man thinks of eve teasing a girl he will be crucified for his actions by the police and legal system. Basically, these salesmen from "Shagun" and "Libha" are just weak bullies who will do anything to touch or talk to a girl from a decent family out of their sheer desperation for a woman's touch. They have obviously been brought up by shameless fathers and horrible mothers and their religious faith has only taught them to treat women and young girls as slaves and prostitutes. It is upto you and me now to make Mumbai a safer place from these desperate rogues and hooligans. If we chose to ignore such grave eve teasing incidents then in the future it could be your sister or girlfriend or female friend who is the victim of the rogue's touch. And, you need to remember that all rapes start with a person who is watching you everyday and knows you. Then, they try and make contact with you through eve teasing, talking or bumping into you on purpose. And, the next thing you know they will drag you into their shop's changing room and rape you one by one. If you are a real woman or man, boy or girl it is your job to pass this letter on to everyone you know. This is not an advertisement or publicity campaign, this letter is from a girl who has been a victim of these shameless eve teasers along with countless others who live in Mumbai. Let us together join hands to show all these shameless eve teasers that today's Indian girl cannot be messed with. I hope this is the last time any girl in Mumbai has to write such a letter.....
