You are on your own. The faster one learns this the longer he lives. Let the people live around you not within you. When you know you will die alone, that day onward you will live alone. Emotional dependence is the most dangerous poison for life. Life does not need it, life needs you to live, that it.
Worrying helps no one find any solution, strategizing does. Thus, if we eliminated worrying from our thought process and as a response to the problems, we will be able to find solutions to problems faster. And when we worry less, that means less stress. Less stress equal less ill effects of stress on our body and mind. Thus, a long life.
Giving unconditional love, forgiving and forgetting will help one to live a long life.
Going about the life at our own pace is one of the longevity secrets that I think is. Not running around or behind the crowds and doing what everyone else is doing, going against our speed of doing things is not good for our life. Setting our own pace without worrying about reaching the destination as per the timer set by others. In the olden or rather Golden days people would decide the time for doing things as per their own schedule. And they would live much longer than our this generation.
I have gone through longevity test, yet another twenty years to live, wants to make these twenty years, best years of my life.
Sitting straight and taking breaks in between when we do jobs that require sitting for long hours are very important. When we sit in one position for too long the blood flow to the pressure areas becomes minimum so when we change the position again it circulates well. I keep moving when I sit and work on the PC or the laptop to balance the blood flow.
Always being cautious about your digestive system and keeping it healthy can be one of the secrets of longevity according to me. All the internal organs are vital though and the sensory organs but taking care of something as simple as our intestine is very important. If you read our Vedas and follow Yog daily you will realize how much weightage is given to the digestive system of our body.
I agree sir, water is the best detoxifier. I used to take warm water throughout year and always try to drink 2 to 3 litres of water daily and keeps myself healthy always.

Very right sir, that water is the most wanted thing in our body. I would also like to add that we must not make our stomach a 'dust bin' where we consume anything and everything that we get. Eat so that we will be able to live not the other way round, live to eat.

The simple but powerful habit of drinking a minimum of 2 liters of water every single day adds a good amount of months and years to your life span. Water is so important to our well being that even a few days without it and we die. As simple as that. We need water for the proper functioning of our entire nervous and digestive system. Make sure that the water you drink is clean, boiled and without anything else added to it. In simpler words, pure boiled water is best for you.
After taking Savio Sir's questionaire ( 60 points ) on longevity, realizing many things, which we have to follow each day, to keep ourselves fit, healthy and strong ( both our body and mind). It is good that all of us take that test and find out where we are lacking to cope up with the time we have already lost.
Deeply amazed to hear that your dad is 96 years old and still strong. Really God's blessings and his great way of following the discipline in his life with healthy habits. May God bless him to reach the milestone of 100 years with good health.

The main secret to longevity is to live a frugal and disciplined life. A simple, balanced diet is the secret to living a healthy life. My dad is now 96 years old and is still going strong.
Recently a famous cinema star said that the secret of his longevity is that he does not take coffee. He wakes up early morning by 5 am and takes a brisk walk out of his home to in hale fresh oxygen. This was the secret of his being active even after 75 years like a young gentleman.
Walking barefoot on the grass lawn daily is one of the secrets that I have observed adds a few years to your lifespan. My grandmother lived for 92 years and most of her life she was very healthy, apart from a cataract operation of her eyes, there were no other medical treatments she ever needed till her final day. Most of her life she lived in the countryside and one thing that I would notice about her was, that she barely wore footwear.
In simple words, 'simplicity' is the biggest secret to longevity.
Want to live long? There is only one medicine. Laugh well. You can laugh only if you are happy. So be happy every time. Even in adverse situation, try to find the silver lining, and hold on to it to laugh. The life will smile back at you.
