Pumelo Film Festival in Mumbai
Pumelo Festivals are in the curriculum of mass communication courses at Enoma or DSilva Classes. Students & faculty organise the non-profit festivals as part of their field training and to learn about world cinema & culture. The films selected are suitable for all audiences above 18 years of age and passes are issued free of charge to the public on first-come-first-served basis. Pumelo is fully supported by the consulates, film makers & film centers of the countries from which films are selected for the film festivals. Pumelo requires your support to ensure that students and the interested audiences in Mumbai can benefit from such non-profit festivals. Pumelo International Film Festival(EIFF) for feature films is for films more than 30 minutes in duration and shot on 35mm or 16mm or Super 8mm or HDV to qualify for screenings at Pumelo International Film Festivals in Asia. The best feature films get prizes of Rs.10000, Rs.5000 & Rs.2000 respectively. We also award prizes for best director, best cinematography, best music score, best production value, best script, best actor, best actress, etc. Workshops & conferences with film makers makes this festival a truly fun-filled international event.
We are ranked in the top 5 for "international film festivals in Asia" by Google. This proves the high standards of the screened films, jury quality, festival atmosphere, international films, film makers in attendance, etc. The biggest strength of Pumelo is that we screen mainly films produced in the last 3 years and not older films. This year we are screening over 60 films from over 20 countries. A true delight for any world cinema lover.
Pumelo is a Non-Profit festival funded by SDC. The film festivals will continue to provide an exposition of the many approaches to cinema from around the world while simultaneously offering practical workshops, seminars and lectures by regional and asian filmmakers in order to stimulate ideas as well as gather the technical skills to execute them here in Bombay or Mumbai.
The festivals will continue its special focus on independent cinema which is so rarely seen in Asia or India. By creating regional programmes and by continuing to create a network of individuals and organizations the festival hopes to become a platform to inspire a feature film culture in Mumbai and rest of Asia.
